Official pics and info on Mercedes’ grand tourers
ELSEWHERE at Mercedes, the marque has followed up the facelifted E-Class saloon and estate with refreshed versions of its Coupé and Cabriolet versions. Both go on sale in the UK at the end of June, priced from around £46,000.
As with the saloon, the Coupé and Cabriolet get reshaped LED headlights, a revised front bumper, a new, partially chromed radiator grille and fresh twopiece LED tail-lights. Buyers can also spec a set of new, aerodynamically efficient alloy wheels and a choice of four extra paint colours.
Inside, there’s a new multifunction steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, revised sports seats, a refreshed choice of leather upholstery colours and the latest version of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system, incorporating a central display with customisable digital dials. Screens measuring 10.25 inches or 12.3 inches in size stretch across the dashboard. Finally, there’s a new grey ash wood trim and aluminium finishers for the dashboard, centre console and doors.
Every model is fitted with a ninespeed automatic gearbox as standard
– but buyers can choose between rear or four-wheel drive on the entrylevel petrol and diesel versions.
Mercedes has also revised the engine range, adding 48-volt mild-hybrid tech to the E 220 d. The 2.0-litre diesel now has an output of 192bhp and 400Nm of torque, and the car has a 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds. It’s the most efficient unit in the E-Class range, returning claimed economy of up to 57.6mpg and emissions of 137g/km. Above that sits the all-wheel-drive E 400 d, which uses a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel producing 335bhp and 700Nm of torque.
The petrol range kicks off with the 2.0litre E 200, producing 194bhp and 320Nm of torque, while the faster E 300 features a 255bhp version of the same four-cylinder engine. Two six-cylinder models complete the line-up: the E 450 4MATIC uses a 3.0litre engine with 48-volt assistance and 362bhp. The range-topping AMG 53 uses the same engine, but boosted to 429bhp.
