Shooting Brake joins plug-in hybrid and hot R model as additions to Arteon range
ELSEWHERE at Volkswagen, the firm has launched a new Arteon Shooting Brake as part of a facelift for the range. A hot R model and a plug-in hybrid have also been added to the line-up.
The Shooting Brake has the same new-look front-end as the saloon; updates are minor but include a new set of LED headlamps, a reshaped grille and new daytime running lights. From the B-pillar rearwards, though, the Shooting Brake is all new, with revisions including a less steeply raked roofline, new quarterlight windows and tailgate, plus updated rear lights. Boot capacity is up to 590 litres and there’s more headroom throughout, VW says.
Across the range there’s also the choice of three new paint finishes and three new alloy wheel designs, measuring between 18 and 20 inches.
Inside, buyers will find a new multifunction steering wheel, touchsensitive controls for the car’s airconditioning system and a new upper dash panel. Every version of the car features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, although buyers can opt for either an eight-inch or 9.2-inch infotainment system, both with support for natural voice control.
Volkswagen has added a pair of new powertrains, too. The first is a 215bhp plug-in hybrid set-up that comprises a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and 13.7kWh battery pack. At the other end of the range sits a new flagship 316bhp R model.
“The Shooting Brake has the same fresh front as the saloon, but is all new from the B-pillars back”
