More aggressive look for revised AMG E 63 S

PURPOSE

-

MERCEDES-AMG has unveiled the facelifted E 63 S. Sales begin in July, with first deliveries expected to arrive in September.

Styling revisions mirror those made to the standard E-Class and apply to both saloon and estate bodystyles. There are new front and rear bumpers, updated LED headlamps and tweaked tail-lights, plus a reshaped front splitter, an AMG-specific grille, wider wheelarches and, at the rear, updates for the rear diffuser and quad-exit exhaust system.

Inside, there’s a new sports steering wheel, an LED ambient lighting system and a pair of AMG-branded sports seats with yellow contrast stitching. Mercedes has also fitted an updated version of its MBUX dual-screen infotainment system, which features a pair of 12.3-inch screens – one for the gauge cluster and one for the car’s media and navigation.

The car’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is untouched, developing 604bhp and 850Nm of torque. Mercedes says 0-62mph takes 3.4 seconds in the saloon, while the estate manages the same sprint in 3.5 seconds.

The facelift also adds adaptive cruise control that uses online traffic data to slow the car in anticipation of a jam ahead, before the car’s radar detects it.

Hazards for emergency crews

Sharpened looks include a new AMG grille, but E 63 S has the same 604bhp V8 as before

Explosive charges pose a risk if cut, while the location of airbags is not always obvious.
