How can I find a Jaguar XE with folding rear seats?

- Tristan Shale-Hester Got any car queries? Tristan_Shale-Hester@dennis.co.uk

AQAQAI AM interested in buying a 2018 or 2019 Jaguar XE, and often transport two sets of golf clubs and two trollies, so folding rear seats are essential. All the XEs I’ve found have fixed rear bench seats. Were folding seats available on the car at all? Steve Salter, E-mail

THE Jaguar XE has always been available with 40:20:40 split rear seats, but as an optional extra when new. Many online buying platforms allow you to enter a keyword in their search filters, and putting the phrase “split rear seats” should help you find cars that were specified with this option. Alternatively, if you’re happy looking at a larger, more expensive car, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake estate is another option.

Must I adjust my headlights before I drive in France?

I’M planning on taking my car to France and driving it there once restrictions ease. Do I have to reverse my headlights before I head off and, if so, how do I go about this? Robert Loughran, E-mail

IF you’re taking a right-hand drive UK car to France, all you need to do to your headlights is change the orientation of the beam. Some cars allow you to do this via settings in the infotainment system, so have a look in your owner’s handbook. If your car doesn’t have this feature, simply buy and stick on a pair of headlamp converters, which are widely available and can easily be fitted at home. Our online guide to driving in France – which you can find at aex.ae/2AYJZqq – offers more help.

Can I MoT my car before end of six-month extension?

MY car’s MoT was originally due in April, and was therefore subject to the Government’s six-month extension. Now that garages have reopened, can I get the test done early?

LK, E-mail

YOU are under no obligation to wait until the end of the six-month extension to put your car through its MoT. In fact, unless you need to self-isolate or have difficulty getting a garage appointment, it’s worth having a test sooner rather than later; the inspection will help alert you if problems have developed during lockdown, when most people used their cars less. Note that if your car fails its MoT, the extension ends at once, and the car must pass another test before it can be driven again.

RENAULT is one of the world’s oldest car makers; it celebrated its 121st birthday earlier this year, and it’s among the few car makers to survive to this day after setting up shop in the 19th century. Since then, this French company has acquired a reputation for creativity and a willingness to take risks. Just some of its greats include the Renault 16, 5, the 4 and the original Twingo.

Although all of these cars sold well, conservative buyers resulted in Renault’s products becoming less innovative, while cost-cutting led to shortfalls in quality that saw in its cars perform poorly in reliability surveys. Recently, Renault has hit back with much-improved quality and more appealing designs – but are these enough to make its fourth-generation Mégane worth a look?
