SKODA’S RESTYLED VERSION of the Volkswagen Up has been revised, but the differences are subtle. The bonnet gets some muscular bulges, a new bumper makes it slightly longer and higher trim levels get LED running lights. Inside, there’s a new Swing radio with smartphone dock, plus some other style tweaks.

The mechanicals are unchanged, so it retains its tidy handling and polish. The 73bhp 1.0-litre can be a little rough when revved but once going is rarely out of its depth.

This is a compelling option, but the segment is more crowded than the urban streets it is designed for – and as such it faces tough opposition from the more engaging Kia Picanto and the more polished Up. JA
