It was interesting to read of Jaguar Land Rover’s plans for a range of electric vehicles. I am, however, reminded of the last time I stopped to charge my BMW i3 at a motorway services, only to find both of the Ecotricity ‘pumps’ occupied.

I looked over enviously at the eight Tesla Superchargers occupied by one car taking on charge, free at the point of use, as opposed to the £3 (plus units used) I would have been charged by Ecotricity. I do not criticise Ecotricity for this – after all, it must make a living – but I question whether the other luxury car makers have taken on board that their upcoming EVS’ 300-mile ranges might not be enough to reliably get their customers to a destination without some chance of inconvenience.

Producing an electric vehicle alone is not enough. A means of charging en route is also essential for truly anxiety-free electric motoring. Might I suggest collaboration with Tesla? Mike O’horan Doncaster
