ON BOARD THE SPORT 250
The £25,999 Sport 250 is Westfield’s latest Sevenstyle sports car. It uses the turbocharged four-pot from the Ford Focus ST and marries it to a Mazda MX-5 manual gearbox and differential. Predictably enough, 252bhp in a car that weighs less than 600kg makes for a fearsomely rapid projectile. In fact, the boosty engine punches so hard through second and third gears that you have to be wide awake to keep the thing between the hedgerows.
The engine isn’t the most characterful lump and generally we would prefer a revvy, responsive, normally aspirated motor in a lightweight car such as this, but there’s no doubting the frantic performance it returns. It is also delivered in an effortless way – you don’t have to chase the redline or work the gearbox hard to make the car shift.
The chassis is set up to be quite effortless too. In fact, the Sport 250 sits on the GT side of the lightweight sports car spectrum. On its 15in wheels, it seems to ride quite high and there’s plenty of suspension travel and body movement too. If you’re looking for a sharp, precise steer, the optional anti-roll bars are a must-have.
