Hugh Hatrick wanted to trade in his Hyundai i10 1.0 S. He says: “At Arnold Clark Vauxhall in Glasgow, we stumbled upon a 15-plate, slightly younger Vauxhall Astra Design 1.6 CDTI 110 with 39,000 miles for £6988. The garage gave us £4700 for our i10, so it cost us just £300 to get out of our 48-month PCP and the new deal is only £125 per month for four years.

“The Astra has reasonable service history and drives really well. I reckon I’ll run it for two years and try to sell it privately for £5500 or thereabouts.”
