Skoda Yeti From £17,610 Almost a blueprint for crossover appeal: chunky looks, hatchback handling and compact MPV practicality.

Renault Kadjar From £19,145 Renault’s Qashqai-based crossover is a good one. As practical as the Nissan but falls a little short on refinement.

Toyota C-HR From £20,995 An interesting, refreshing and genuinely good addition to the crossover class. Shame the engine isn’t better.
