DALLARA ON HIS PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENTS

-

LAMBORGHINI MIURA (1966)

Dallara worked for Lamborghini from 1963 to 1969 and, along with Paolo Stanzani and designer Marcello Gandini, was one of the key people behind the Miura and its radical mid-engined layout. “In some ways, it was an easy choice,” he says, “because racing cars were no longer front engined but rear engined. Ford had already raced the GT40, which immediately showed the big potential for a car like this, and Lamborghini always wanted to have a car that was more advanced than a Ferrari.”

DALLARA F393 FORMULA 3 CAR (1993)

Despite Dallara’s involvement in a huge number of top-flight racing projects, Gian Paolo Dallara says the humble F3 chassis has given him the most satisfaction. The company has come to dominate all national championships, with the 1993 F393 the breakthrough car. “We were winning races in Italy and France before then, but not in England,” he says. “But then we arrived and started to win and this gave us the confidence that we did have a good product.”

DALLARA STRADALE (2017)

Dallara company executives admit that, even if the full allocation of 600 Stradales is sold, the firm will barely break even. It wasn’t done to make money, but for corporate pride and to show what the company is capable of. “I might not be in a condition to evaluate our car compared to the others,” Dallara says, “but I know that the aerodynamic values are good and that it will be very good on the road, easy to drive and predictable. I am so proud of the car and the team that has created it.”
