Pensioner rushed to hospital with facial injuries after town centre fall
An OAP was left battered and bruised after plunging face first over an uneven surface in bustling Ayr town centre.
Winni Plaickner, 77, was rushed to A& E after her foot caught on a crack in the pavement on Carrick Street whilst carrying her shopping bags.
She told the Post: “If this had been someone less active than myself at this age, it could have caused a heart attack! I am extremely grateful to the anonymous helpers who stayed with me the entire time, a young man, a young girl and the middle aged woman.
“Unfortunately, I did not catch their names however I would like to thank these good samaritans for helping me and calling an ambulance on my behalf, it is wonderful to know the kindness of strangers.”
A spokesman for Ayrshire Roads Alliance said: “We are sorry to hear of the lady’s fall on Friday and hope she is recovering well.
“Following our last street inspection of Carrick Street on August 11 2015, according to our Footway/ Footpath Hierarchy in the Safety Inspection Procedure and Guidance Manual, Carrick Street is one of our Strategic Walking Zones and it is therefore walked monthly by our Inspector to ensure safe passage by pedestrians.
“Following this report, our inspector will walk again first thing tomorrow.”
I am extremely grateful to the anonymous helpers
