Cycle challenge to remember Dan
An Ayr couple are holding an event in memory of their son, to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.
Lynda and Steve Maw organised the fundraiser, after losing their son Dan, who, aged just 19, sadly took his own life.
As a student, Dan was a bright and popular boy and his death left friends at Belmont Academy and his loving family shocked and devastated.
To highlight the importance of World Suicide Prevention Day, one of the initiatives held annually is the Cycle Around the Globe challenge. The idea is to have participants on every continent raising awareness by collectively cycling 24,900 miles - the circumference of the globe.
Dan’s family are calling for the community to get involved in the challenge after hosting the HopeWalk in 2014, which was a great success.
Lynda and Steve said: “This year in an effort to encourage more to take part, we have liased with Ayr Citadel who have generously allowed the use of their spin bikes between 6.30- 7.30pm on Thursday, September 10.
“If you would like to come along and take part for as little or as long as you can manage, you will be most welcome.”
“We are also encouraging participants to get sponsored if they wish with all money to be donated to PAPYRUS - a charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.”
