Putting the scare into Ayr

A Nightmare on High Street

- Kenny Smith

Ayr residents can play a hands- on part in TamFest at Halloween.

The event, to celebrate Ayr’s spooky past and Burns’ famous Tam O’Shanter, will take place on October 31, when a host of events will take place to bring people into the area for a day of scares.

One of the events will be a Haunted House attraction, sponsored by Ayr Townscape Heritage Initiative.

Andrew Campbell will be the director for the attraction - and he is looking for folk to help bring it to life, by hosting auditions for local actors on September 12, at the University of the West Of Scotland in Ayr.

With Andrew as director, Angela Taylor is project assistant, and also involves James Grierson ( special effects director) and Toria Cassidy ( producer).

Andrew said: “We are looking for performers to take part in a Halloween show in Ayr. The show is an interactive horrorexperience which combines the puzzle solving of a Riddle Room with the visceral terror of a horror movie.

“We are hosting the auditions from 1- 5pm, although we stress that audition is by appointment only.

“Rehearsals will take place October 24- 27, with shows running from October 30- November 1. Pay will be profit share.”

The attraction’s story sees it sited near the house of Maggie Osborne, the infamous witch of Ayrshire. One of the tour- guides will accidentally read aloud the sacred words and things start to go wrong.
