All set for a charity screening

Ayr Film Society helped Septembayr get off to a spectacular start last week.

The Septembayr committee in conjunction with Ayr Film Society screened the last Harold Lloyd silent movie, Speedy, with accompaniment by Gordon Cree on the Ayr Town Hall Lewis organ.

The screening concluded with rapturous applause from a spell- bound audience of around 80. Gordon Cree changed ‘ musical moods’ in conjunction with the moving image throughout the 87 minute screening, which was no mean feat.

It was agreed by all concerned that it had been a wonderful experience and that this could become a permanent feature of the Septembayr Film Festival in the future.

Meanwhile the film society have announced their next few screenings, which take place this week.

On Thursday, September 10, they will show Magic in the Moonlight, a romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle. It stars Colin Firth, Eileen Atkins and Marcia Gay Harden, from director Woody Allen. Doors open at 7pm.

Then on Friday, September 11, they will screen the Disney classic Fantasia, a collection of animated interpretations of great works of Western classical music.

All proceeds from this screening will be donated to CLIC Sargent. Doors open at 6pm.

Then on Saturday, September 12, they showing Love Is Strange.

After Ben and George get married, George is fired from his teaching post, forcing them to stay with friends separately while they sell their place and look for cheaper housing - a situation that weighs heavily on all involved. Doors open at 7pm.

Screenings are at Ayr Town Hall.
