Indie guitar fans will be crying out for Marr

-

Indie guitar god Johnny Marr is to play Ayrshire as part of his British tour.

And it’s all thanks to the commitment and hard work of the people behind Irvine’s Freckfest.

The committee, set up in memory of North Ayrshire Leisure performing arts officer, Willie Freckleton, have worked hard to bring quality live music to Ayrshire for over two years.

And in the past pop icons Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones and rockers Gun are among the names they have secured.

But they consider Johnny Marr as their biggest name to date.

Johnny Marr of indie legens The Smiths will play a gig at The Grand Hall in Kilmarnock on October 15.

Craig McAllister of Freckfest said: “After a lot of negotiation and to- ing and fro- ing we’ve eventually landed the biggest gig in our history.

“We promised we’d bring the best acts back to Ayrshire and boy, have we delivered!

“This is a terrific gig for all involved.

“The Freckfest team has been desperate to book a big name, and now we have.

“The people of Ayrshire deserve a big name on their doorstep.

“And for Johnny, he’s always keen to play the off- the- beaten track places often missed out by other touring acts.

“Johnny Marr is the anti- rock guitar hero.

“His instantly recognisable riffs were responsible for creating the sound of The Smiths, one of Britain’s truly great original bands.”
