They now travel to face Allan Glens on Saturday, September 19.

Carrick raced 17- 0 ahead after 12 minutes mostly due to the fact that Calum Smith took the kick offs and made hard yards from each one and, with some quick ball, wingers Clark and McCulloch scored three superb tries.

Leading 24- 10 at the break, some focused words from the coaching team had the desired affect when Michael Kirk scored his first competitive try with John Fulton converting.

Helensburgh hit back straight away with a third try before Carrick took over with tries from Connor Wyllie, Allan Speirs and Lewis Clark who secured his hat- trick with three minutes to go. All were converted by John Fulton.

The U18s lost 10- 12 with a try from Andrew McColm and points from the boot of Matthew Smith.

The other sides all gave good accounts, especially at the junior levels were Carrick scored plenty of tries but the main highlight for Director of Rugby Gordon Brown and Community Development Officer Michael Kirk was the fact that they fielded as a club/ school nine sides on the one day, something very few can say.

Kirk said: “Since returning to Carrick one of our key objectives has been to develop the P6 and P7 squads so we can field sides against the top independent schools.

“On Saturday, for the first time ever, we achieved that as well as fielding a further five full youth sides all in the same morning.

“This, for me, makes Carrick not just a rugby club/ school but a real community. It gives us great foundations to grow the game further over.”

Brown added: “If you thought last week sounded busy, this week is even more hectic. The girls U15 start their season attending the South Ayrshire Girls tournament on Wednesday.

“The U18 and P6/ P7 sides will play Lomond School before the Glasgow Warriors match on Friday night as well as our P6/ 7 forming the guard of honour before the match.

They will provide half- time entertainment by playing Lomond again on the main field.

“On Saturday morning the S1 and S2 sides travel to Helensburgh to play Lomond with the S3 and U16s hosting Lomond at Rozelle. All games kick off at 10.30am.”
