Leonard appeals to Girvan fans for cup backing

Peter Leonard has appealed for Girvan folk to roar his team into the first round proper of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

Girvan host East of Scotland champions Lothian Thistle in a prelim round replay on Saturday after a 2- 2 draw at Saughton.

Boss Leonard claimed: “It’s a tie between two well matched teams but you could see why Lothian are on a long unbeaten run.

“It’s up for grabs - anyone can win - but I felt we were on top in the secondhalf.

“I hope the people of Girvan turn out in force and get right behind us.”

Trailing to an early goal from Dean Cummings, Robert Paterson volleyed the equaliser from Scott Dinwoodie’s lob. Cummings headed Lothian back in front but Paul Cameron fired in a penalty after a Marc Dyer effort had been handled.
