Talent king roots out award

Meet the Ayr Rugby Club hopefuls who are bidding to bring more success to Millbrae this season.

The pink and blacks entertain Melrose on Saturday, hoping to bounce back from last week’s last gasp 22- 19 home defeat by Boroughmui­r.

Head scout Raymond Pattison was selected as one of five McDonalds Grassroots South- West Region award winners of 2015.

The annual SFA Grassroots Awards, presented by McDonald’s and the Sunday Mail, rewards people who make a difference to grassroots football in their local community.

Raymond has been involved with East Ayrshire primary schools for more than 30 years.

United 15s scored their first Elite level win when they beat Partick Thistle 5- 3 at Belmont Academy on Sunday.

Scorers were Hamish Brown, Callum Bryce, Josh Dillon, Harry McLaughlin and Ross Love.

On Saturday, Ayr 11s and 12s play Rangers at Kilwinning Sports Club at 11am and 1pm.

Forth Valley FA are opponents on Sunday – the 13s at the same venue at 11am, 14s at Belmont Academy ( 1.30pm), 15s and 17s at Stirling University at 11am.
