Burns Club AGM The club holds its AGM tonight, Wednesday, September 9, at 8pm in the bowling club. Note the change of venue. One item on the agenda will be the matter of a venue for future meetings. This is an important meeting about the future and members should make an effort to attend.

Malawi Visitor The Church of Scotland has a long- standing relationship with the Church in Malawi, and Ayr Presbytery maintains that connection today. Dundonald has provided financial support for the Mlore and Chiole Children’s Nurseries. Last Sunday the Dundonald congregation enjoyed a visit from the Rev Bordingtone Singini, minister of the Mjaka Church which oversees these nurseries and ensures the money sent is put to good use. He described how the Prayer Houses and nurseries operated and, using photographs, showed what they were like, and how contributions were used. Afterwards, members of the congregation met Rev Singini during a soup and sandwich lunch.

Bowling Club The recent Hillhouse Trophy match was keenly contested, as the weather seemed to take a turn for the better, and for the second year running, Kay Park BC took the honours. The team was J Craine, A Orr, W Ewing and D Green. The following Saturday saw the annual Tower Tools balloted mixed pairs competition in which luck prevailed for Dundonald President W Jardine and his partner V Ogilvie who were the outright winners. As always, club thanks goes to the ladies who, week after week, swap their kitchen at home for the club kitchen to provide much appreciated food for members and guests.

Whisky Tasting The Friends of the Castle are holding a Whisky Tasting in the Castle on Friday, September 11, at 7pm. After last year’s success, the organisers hope that even more will join them this Friday to help raise funds for the Friends of Dundonald Castle while enjoying six outstanding single malt whiskies. Tickets can be had from the Visitor Centre at £ 26 each or book on- line at www. glasgowmaltwhiskycompany.com/ events. This event is not restricted to members of the Friends of the Castle, and is ideal for both interested novices and seasoned whisky fans. Historical Society The new session’s syllabus has been issued to current members, and starts with Bob MacMillan speaking tonight on Ayrshire and War.
