The highest salmon are in the upper reaches of the River Ayr, at more than 1000 feet.

When Loch Doon was dammed it was agreed in 1935 the river gets a compensation flow of 45 million gallons a day.

There are still pearl- producing freshwater mussels on the River Doon.

Loch Eye at Shalloch of Minnoch is the source of the Riv River Girvan – on only half a mile from the St Stinchar so source.

Everything di died in the lo lower str stretches of th the Girvan in 19 1979 when po poison leaked in f from the old Da Dalquharran mi mine at Dailly.

S Spates on the Sti Stinchar have see seen salmon of up to 62lb cau caught. The bigger the task, the more problems you’re likely to face, and the more you need the best people on your team.

Which is precisely why Troon couple Bill and Florence McGlasson can look back with satisfaction after choosing Tom Callaghan to tackle a major home improvement.

The McGlassons took their plans for an extension to their kitchen to Tom Callaghan, who advised that they were looking for something more than a conservatory.

“We decided on Tom Callaghan because they had a family feel to them,” said Bill, “and I’m really glad we did.

“Tom’s architect worked with us on the plans, and they helped us with the necessary permissions as well.”

Not that everything went smoothly.

As work proceeded on the foundations, they discovered steel gas pipes, which are no longer legal.

That meant tracing the source, and having a replacement pipe installed.

None of this had anything to do with Tom Callaghan’s team, but they helped the McGlassons through the extra work involved, and the inevitable delays.

“Everyone connected with the company was first- class,” said Bill, “from the telephonist to the father and son from Tarbolton who did the work on the foundations.

“All of Tom Callaghan’s people are experts in their field, and did an excellent job for us. We’re absolutely delighted with the results.”

Once again, Tom Callaghan and his team have risen to the occasion, and come up trumps for another satisfied customer.
