Scrabble Calling all wordsmiths. Scrabble players who meet in Troon Library on Thursday mornings and Monday afternoons are holding a fundraisin­g Scrabble afternoon on Thursday, June 16, at 2pm at the Stables, Coodham Estate. They wish other keen players to come along and enjoy what should be a very sociable event. Monies raised will go to the project’s India Charitable Trust. Cheese, wine and nibbles will be provided at the start of the afternoon. Coffee, with tea and baking after the Scrabble games. Tickets are £ 5 each. Contact Maura 01563 830838 or Ann on 01563 830440, by Thursday June 9. Tea time A fundraisin­g afternoon tea will take place in Ivy Cottage on Saturday, June 11, from 2- 5pm. Tickets priced £ 5 are now available in Words and Music and James G Brodlie, Pharmacy. Charity event A coffee morning for the children of Syria will be held in Portland Parish Church Hall on Saturday, June 18, from 10am until noon. Tickets are priced £ 2 for adults and £ 1 for children, and are on sale at the door on the day. Save the Children report that 12,000 children have lost their lives in the conflict. Save the Children provide food, water, medicine, protection, shelter and education in the camps where millions have escaped from Syria and now live in temporary accommodat­ion in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Egypt. Carers support South Ayrshire Carers’ Support Group meet every second Monday morning in Troon Library from 10am until 11.30am. This is an opportunit­y for carers to meet with others, receive advice on benefits, counsellin­g and activities organised in Troon and District. Chess If there is enough interest, it is hoped to form a new chess club in Troon Library. Please be advised that due to new government legislatio­n, no salmon are allowed to be killed this season. Any person who would like to join the committee would be made very welcome. The River Tay outing is on June 11. All those interested who are interestin­g in going are asked to hand their names to S Hogg, J Timmins or G Hamilton. Glenbuck Loch is fully stocked and if anyone wishes to pass a day and put boats on the loch they will be more than welcome.
