Choir called up to join Military Wives
Choir The school choir have continued to wow audiences at various events. One of their most illustrious events to date was being invited to sing with the Military Wives Choir in Kilmarnock. A huge amount of preparation was involved as pupils had to rehearse throughout their Easter holidays and during both intervals and lunchtimes with Mrs Kelly in the run- up to the concert. Two days later more of the girls were out performing with the South Ayrshire Schools Concert Choir in Ayr Town Hall. They then turned out in full to perform in a fundraising concert for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in the Carrick Centre, Maybole. Mrs Kelly, who directs the choir, was delighted with the commitment shown by the girls and also by the quality of singing that they continue to produce. The school thanked Mrs Kelly for all her hard work. Working in Westminster Head girl Rebecca Watson got the amazing opportunity of going to Parliament in Westminster with local MP Corri Wilson as part of her work experience. On the Tuesday Rebecca was given a guided tour of Parliament and met some MPs. On the second day she was invited to a gender equality briefing, where she met more MPs and two lords, before watching a debate in Westminster Hall that Ms Wilson was speaking in. Rebecca said “I will never forget this experience. It was a fantastic opportunity that I am very grateful for. It allowed me to see the other side of politics away from the constituency office. I even got to see politicians such as Ed Miliband and Boris Johnson.” Trips The annual positive behaviour trips took place last month. S1 pupils went to M& D’s while S2/ 3 travelled to Blackpool. These trips were a reward to pupils who have maintained good attendance, behaviour and conduct throughout this session. The school thanked all staff who accompanied the trips and Mr Robinson for organising them. Library As the end of the school year approaches it is time for all library books to be returned. It has been a good year for the accelerated reader programme, with results showing an increase in pupil participation. Parents are being asked to ensure their child returns all library books by the end of this week. P 7 induction Guidance staff and depute heads have been visiting Ayr Academy’s cluster primaries to meet P7 pupils prior to their induction days on Thursday and Friday next week. Staff answered many questions from excited pupils who are looking forward to joining the Academy in August. Pupils will follow their August timetable for the two days and will be looked after by the new team of prefects. Senior phase Senior phase students who are returning for another year with the school should attend an induction session on Friday at 11am in the Memorial Hall, where they will be issued with their senior contracts and new timetables.
