Fly high with airshow song Little fire

-

There’s long been a history of songs inspired by flying and our love of aviation.

From Sinatra’s Come Fly With Me to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Aeroplane, there have been some hugely memorable tunes about our passion for taking to the skies.

This year the Scottish International Airshow taking place in Ayr in September will be a fantastic hub of music as well as flight with the dedicated Music and Comedy Pavilion for the first time.

The Airshow is looking for a talented group or artist to pen an original song inspired by the love of flying or aviation which will feature as the official song of the airshow.

This is a seriously cool competition as you could be heard by a truly international audience. It’s a fantastic career opportunity. It will be used on the official airshow radio station as the official theme song and will also be used in promotional videos, on the event website and will even be played on the radio.

The song will be judged by a panel of music industry professionals and the closing date is 30th June. I’m told it doesn’t need to be the most polished version but please do your best and reach for the skies!

Scottish blues supremo Dave Acari will be performing live at Big Sparra Vinyl in Ayr this Sunday at 2pm. Dave is one of the best rock and rollers out there. One of the hardest working guys on the circuit, not just in Scotland but internationally, he is the definition of the roving musician and it’s superb that he’s returning following last year’s outstanding show in Irvine.

Support on the day comes from Ayrshire’s ALauraborealis and the gig will be a wee gem. Get there if you can and you can get a copy of Dave’s soon to be released Hellbound Train EP.

Soundmagic Music Studio in Ayr are now offering a Member’s Club with incentives including free rehearsals, discounted recording and free use of the studio for members who want to use it to host their own gigs. Having been to the studio before for their legendary BandWagon events I can tell you that the community is friendly and fun and their Member’s Club sounds like something really worthwhile.

All of us who are involved in Ayrshire in music are part of a community and there’s a lot of value in bringing people together to learn, work and play and I have to enthusiastically commend SoundMagic for their efforts in doing this over the years.

I’m hugely looking forward to heading over to the Arran Folk Festival this weekend. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be hot and having been over for the festival as a performer last year it really was one of the best experiences of my year. The scenery is gorgeous, the people friendly and the music always brilliantly curated.

We are so lucky to have Arran right in our backyard and if you’re free this weekend I can only hope you’ll head over for an unforgettable weekend at the festival.

The concerts all take place in Brodick Village Hall with an open mic aptly named the ‘ Survivors’ Session’ taking place on Sunday at the Douglas Hotel in the afternoon.
