Stars get in the ring for big birthday bash

Action packed weekend in store at Citadel

- Michael Reynolds

Grappling fans are in for a treat next month when a packed weekend of wrestling action comes to Ayr.

Pro Wrestling Elite will celebrate their fifth birthday with two bumper events at the Citadel Leisure Centre on Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23.

As well as top talent from Ayrshire and beyond, the shows will feature two superstars who made their names in the biggest wrestling organisation in the world.

Billy Gunn and X- Pac, members of one of pro wrestling’s most historic groups, D- Generation X, will make their PWE debuts on the fifth anniversary weekend.

The American duo, two of the top draws during wrestling’s last boom period in the late 1990s, will face Scottish wrestling’s bad boys, the New Age Kliq.

Chris Renfrew and BT Gunn interrupted Gunn during a fan question and answer session in Glasgow recently to set up the bumper bout for the huge weekend of action inside the squared circle.

Promoter Adrian McCallum said: “I can’t believe it’s been five years since our first show – and we’re going to celebrate it the right way.

“These shows will be some of the biggest in PWE history, with two of the biggest names in wrestling taking on some of our top home- grown stars.

“It will be a great weekend with plenty of twists and turns, and something for everyone across both nights.”

Top Scots stars such as Grado, Noam Dar and Wolfgang will also feature on the packed cards, as well as the Pro Wrestling Elite champion, heavyweight bruiser Iestyn Rees.

And as well as top stars, in true Pro Wrestling Elite fashion, the night will be full of surprises – with promoter Adrian’s rival Jackie Polo looking to make his mark after he made his debut at the promotion’s most recent show.

Tickets are on sale now from www. prowrestlingelite. com, with various options costing between £ 13.75 and £ 55 for one night or £ 25 for a general ticket for both nights.
