I say blondes are very high maintenance folks

- Martin Malloy

Long days and summer sun our recent good spell of fine weather has lifted all our spirits with many of us are golden glowing or lobster red at the moment, quite simply it’s lovely to have the warm sunshine.

The gardens are alive with summer colours, mother nature sure knows how to gives us all a rainbow of colour at this time of the year from violet to deep pinks through to sunny yellow even the various shades of green are more vivid and vibrant and it’s no surprise at all then that at at this time of the year the most asked after hair service in the salon is sun kissed blonde with soft honey tones, caramel slices or even flashes of ash blonde.

Most clients can manage a sun kissed look easily as it’s the most gentle colour that will enhance and blends well with most natural hair colour, it can also flatter, cool skin tones through to deep olive or sun kissed and it’s always a safe way forward although you should proceed with caution.

Many people try to go blonde and end up with orange tones.

So when it comes to bleaching your hair at home, leave it to the professionals as we have a tool box of tricks should it go slight wrong.

The one thing that’s a must is keeping your newly lighted hair in optimum condition with deep moisturising treatments and gentle cleaning products, there’s plenty on the market.

Some are specifically designed to keep your lightened hair in tip top condition unlike brown, black and red, blonde is the hardest hair colour of all to get a shine on.

So a little finishing oil can add this and keep stray hairs away as well as condition, here is the science bit - your hair is made up of the same proteins as our skin with three layers - the outer one called the cuticle, like fish scales they all run down the hair shaft , these are the ones a lighter strips back to lift the colour out and add new tones.

So you really have too keep the conditioning up as dry hair is not a good look on any one and as much as we love the sunshine the UV rays also strip hair colour whether you’re a deep chocolate brown or platinum beach blonde it really does pay you to protect your investment with top quality sun hair protectors that are available by many hair companMost ies as these really help keep your colour looking as great as possible while out in the sun.

Or just wear a large rimmed sun hat as there’s one thing that it’s wise too bear in mind the rise in skin cancers are on the rise these days and although our scalps are protected to a degree with our hair there is still a risk, so be sensible when out and about.

I don’t actually believe blondes have more fun - they may be more high maintenance but then that’s all down to regular salon visits.

Have a fabulous week, until next time, Martin.
