Determined Tortoises beat the heat
Funding boost for real sports
More true sports have received cash grants from South Ayrshire Sports Council.
South Ayrshire swim team members Cerys McCrindle and Laura Logan received cash to help with their training towards the Special Olympics National Games next year.
Grants also went to tennis players Lucy Paterson, Jamie Young, Mark Young, Alexander Kendall, Lia Matteoni, Ellie Crosbie, Ryan Stribling, Jennifer Shaw and Nicole Clarke for representing Ayrshire in the Scottish Inter District Team Championships.
Also receiving awards were Harvey McDonald ( South Ayrshire Table Tennis Club) and Prestwick Sailing Club cadet captain Cameron MacIntyre towards running a sailing course for disabled children. The grant will be used for payment of instructors. Marathon Troon Tortoise runners competed in the 2016 target marathon with club runners heading to the east coast to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay.
The conditions were tough in the searing heat but all club members performed well with some great times posted.

Half Marathon: Sharon McNicol 1.49.21 PB; Murray Sherriff – Short 1.52.23.
Also in long- distance action was Liam Convery, who travelled south to take part in the Liverpool Marathon.
Liam put in a great effort to finish the course in 3.12.48.
Closer to home, the Tortoises were well represented in the Land O’Burns 10k in Ayr. Matt Pearce was first home in 39.13. Now that the marathon season is almost at an end training turns to shorter distances to build up speed for the forthcoming 5k and 10k races.
