Determined Auchinleck bag final spot

-

Auchinleck claimed more derby bragging rights on Monday evening and then set their sights on a trophy treble.

The Premier League and West of Scotland Cup winners beat Cumnock 2- 1 in the Champions Cup and will take on Renfrew in the final at Pollok on Saturday.

Bryan Young gave Talbot an interval lead at Rosebank, only for Aiden Malone to equalise for the newlycrowned First Division champions.

But never- say- die Auchinleck conjured up the winner when Young set up Keir Milliken to score with a composed finish.

Tommy Sloan’s men were coming off the back of a penalties defeat by Beith in the Ayrshire Cup semi- finals last Saturday.

Milliken was again on target but Richie Burke’s leveller set up a spotkick shoot- out where former Ayr keeper Stephen Grinday was Beith’s hero.

CUMNOCK are now looking forward to life in the top flight after pipping Largs on goal difference for the title.

Malone grabbed a hat- trick as they wrapped up the flag with a 4- 1 win over Cumbernauld last Wednesday. Keiran Downs was also on target.

GIRVAN are bidding to add the Ayrshire Cup to the Ayrshire League which they won without losing a game.

Peter Leonard’s men were due to entertain Irvine Meadow on Wednesday evening, with Beith taking on Irvine Vics in the other semi.

The final at Abbey Park, Kilwinning, on Thursday, June 16, will wrap up the season.

Girvan’s tilt at the Champions Cup ended in the semis when they lost 2- 1 away to Renfrew last midweek.

Calum Nairn gave Girvan the lead but the hosts scored twice before Rab Patterson hit woodwork late on.

TROON hold their AGM at Portland Park on Sunday, June 12, at noon.
