DONALD’S RING OF STEEL
Security chiefs gear up for Trump jet touchdown
Security chiefs are to throw a ring of steel around Donald Trump as he jets into Ayrshire this week.
Police and counter terrorism teams are preparing to mount a huge operation at sleepy Turnberry as the White House hopeful rolls into town.
It comes amid fears of an angry protest being staged against the controversial billionaire.
Almost 250 people have pledged to turn up to an organised demonstration at his Carrick resort.
The rally, entitled “Stand Up To Trump!” has been organised on social media and gained support from across the country.
Organisers say they will show that “Trump’s brand of bigotry is not welcome in Scotland”.
The Post has learned that security services are preparing for “every eventuality” during Trump’s visit.
It follows the news that all of Scotland’s main political leaders have snubbed invites to attend Turnberry’s official reopening.
Nicola Sturgeon, Labour’s Kezia Dugdale, Tory Ruth Davidson and Lib Dem Willie Rennie will all blank the event.
It’s understood their refusal to attend has angered the Trump camp, who regard Friday as the rebirth of one of Europe’s most important resorts.
It is expected that Trump’s son, Eric, will play a key role in proceedings, having led the ambitious revamp over the past two years.
Donald, who refers to Turnberry as “his baby” is expected to fly into Prestwick Airport aboard his personalised Trump jet before making his way to the resort to face the world’s media.
Chief Superintendent Gillian MacDonald, local policing commander for Ayrshire Division, said: “Police Scotland is aware of plans by Donald Trump to visit Ayrshire.
“As with the visit of any high profile individual, planning is under way and the event will be policed in an appropriate fashion.”
And Chief Superintendent MacDonald added about the arrangements: “We do not discuss the detail of individual security arrangements being made in connection with such visits.”
