Warm up during the winter

-

When people arrive at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, one of the first things they want to do is get some food, drink and holiday accessories - and there’s plenty to be found.

There’s not just the packed duty free shop, but busy bar, good food outlet and a handy WHSmith, to ensure that travellers have everything they need to get into the holiday spirit.

For those either seeing off their loved ones, or arriving back from sunnier climes, there’s a busy coffee bar and a comfortable bar area, as well as another newsagent.

Reponsible for making sure everyone has a good retail time in Prestwick is Alison Blackman, who is the airport’s Client Experience Manager.

Alison, from Stevenston, has been with the airport for nearly 24 years.

She said: “When I first came here, I worked in the property department, and I progressed from there.

“Many years ago, the Italian football team flew out of Prestwick, and the senior management team wanted there to be some duty free facility for them. “It’s all grown since then.” The importance of the passenger side of things to Prestwick cannot be underestimated.

Alison clarified: “Retail, catering and car parking make a vital contribution to the airport’s income.”

With the airport being so conveniently located and open all year round, the landside catering team are available for the businesses based at the airport.

And with the train line being so close by, it’s a great place to meet over coffee.

And there’s also the added bonus landside of a beer garden that is a real suntrap!

Alison added: “Prestwick is a great place to work, I’m working with great people, and the future is definitely bright for the airport.” The summer holidays may be arriving for many of us, but Glasgow Prestwick Airport has an exciting winter 2016 schedule.

Ryanair has launched three new winter services from Prestwick to Barcelona, Faro and Malta.

There will be three weekly flights to Barcelona, two weekly ventures to Faro, and one weekly trip to Malta.

During the winter months, there are flights on nine routes including Alicante, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Malaga, with four weekly flights to Tenerife.
