We hae meat so let us eat

- SJ McDonald

It was a delicious day out in Ballantrae when thousands flocked to celebrate all things food and drink.

No visitor went hungry at the 2016 Ballantrae Food Festival with more than 50 stalls delivering local produce to fellow foodies alongside an array of cookery demonstrations, discussions, talks, book signings and fun activities returning to the village.

Now into her second year organising the festival, Susan Crosthwaite told the Post: “Once again the village of Ballantrae punched well above its weight by pulling off a highly successful food event which attracted visitors from all over the country.

“When we first decided to hold our own food festival, the intention was to put Ballantrae well and truly on the food map and I think we have more than achieved that.

“My thanks go to the team and all the volunteers as well as the stallholders and funders for creating such a wonderful experience.”

Foraging instructor Lisa Cutcliffe said: “It was a pleasure meeting visitors who participated on the foraging walk – we had such a great turnout.

“I had people in my team who had come from as far as Manchester and Edinburgh to attend which was really encouraging.“

And, throughout the day, visitors couldn’t get enough of the activities on offer.

One said: “Brilliant day yet again, thanks to everyone involved I can’t wait until next year”, while another added: “What a fabulous day, I am already looking forward to the 2017 event and thanks go to everyone involved. What a great event for the village – it was even better than last year.”
