Scottish holidaymak­ers will boost the UK economy by £ 330 million this year with a record number choosing to take a break here rather than go abroad.

Two- thirds are planning a staycation over the coming months and more than half are choosing to head for the British coast, new research has revealed.

And Ayrshirean­d Arran are amongthe top 10 staycation destinatio­ns in the United Kingdom.

Blackpool is the top destinatio­n for those holidaying by the sea, according to the Travelodge holiday index, followed by Argyll and The Isles, the Galloway coast and Cornwall.

City breaks are also very popular with thousands heading for the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, while others plan to take in stunning countrysid­e in the Highlands, Ayrshire and Arran and Lake District.

The survey of 1000 Scots revealed a typical family will take a one- week holiday as well as four shorter breaks in 2016, while a fifth will take a traditiona­l fortnight.

There is so much to do during the summer in Ayrshire and Arran.

From summer clubs run by KA Leisure where youngsters can keep fit and healthy during daytime sessions to galas and festivals that can’t be missed.

You can take a tour of North Ayrshire and enjoy a host of events during the summer months.

Set sail from Ardrossan for the isle of Arran to look at the fantastic walks, festivals and, of course, the stunning scenery that the island boasts.

Perhaps enjoy a drop of the island’s whisky, too.

Then it’s back to the mainland to join in Irvine’s Marymass Festival, the largest free community festival in Scotland in August .

Travelling along to South Ayrshire, with the stunning scenery of Troon and the legendary Open tournament which heads to the town in July we make our way to Heads of Ayr Farm Park and the stunning Culzean Castle – with so much to do and see.

Then it’s off to Ayr, steeped in the life and history of Robert Burns.

And don’t forget the excitement of the Scottish Air Show as it flies into Prestwick – a must for the whole family.

Kilmarnock offers the chance to enjoy history and adventure – meet the animals of Dean Park or get fit at the Galleon Centre.

Ayrshire and Arran boast some of the finest restaurant­s and hotels to dine in so this summer why not enjoy a staycation and fill your diary with events galore to choose from.
