Looking closer to home

-

I still can’t believe CLIC Sargent are looking at closing their home in Prestwick.

I’ve done a quick look online and I see that their headquarters are based in Fulham in London.

We all know that property in London costs a pretty penny - at a time when the likes of the BBC are decentralising and moving out of the expensive capital of the UK, why are the likes of this charity not considering doing the same?

If they’re that short of money, surely that’s a viable action?

Property is significantly cheaper - to buy and rent - away from the south east of England.

If the charity are so desperate to try and address a hole in their finances, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that one out!

I am indeed surprised. Snubbing the man who could well be the next leader of the world’s most powerful country is a huge mistake.

Mr Trump has ploughed more than £ 500million of his own money into Scotland in the last four years, provided work for scores of small companies and given worthwhile job opportunities to so many of our young people.

Scotland deserves better from its leaders.

They need to show respect and to offer him congratulations.

No other previous owner of this property has come close in achieving all that he has done and fulfilling the promises he made to the local community and improving the lifestyle of so many people.

Certainly the residents of South Ayrshire are genuinely grateful and in the last few days overseas visitors to Turnberry, especially Americans, have been greatly enthused and are full of praise for what he has put in place. They have described the Ailsa course as truly spectacular - so special it will soon be regarded as the world’s No 1 links course.

High praise indeed, but thoroughly deserved.

I am sure it is not too late for the politicans to change their diaries, I am told that more than 100 of the world’s press plan to attend. It is incumbent for them to do so.

His political stance in America should have no place in their decision making. Protests and unrest at bad or unfair service is and of itself generally a good thing, but like everything there can be unforeseen consequences.

A few months ago there was a bit of a protest in your publication regards the installation of new and slightly different parking ticket machines in the Matalan car park at the top of the town in Ayr.

Some protests had justification and others were in my considered opinion just someone else blaming the new system for their shortcomings and their stupidity.

Shortly thereafter these machines were withdrawn due to the adverse publicity and the car park then became free to all.

Sadly this has resulted in a mass “Park- In” by those working in the outlets in both Parkhouse Street and the surrounding business area which has meant those genuinely wishing to shop in the two retail outlets serviced by the space, now find it extremely difficult on most occasions to find a parking space.

Even sadder and after almost 20 years with the original company and those who came after them over the period, is the fact the very helpful and very mannerly car park attendant has now last his job.

Consigned to the bru by the actions of a few, who although I assume not intending this action to be taken, nevertheless have indirectly been responsible for a good and an honest man being thrown onto the bru and the scrapheap of unemployment.

Given his age and he’s by no means old, I doubt he will now find it easy to gain new employment in the present economic downturn!

Should there be an employer out there looking for an honest, hardworking responsible worker, might I suggest the former attendant would make an excellent addition to any workforce.
