Karen gears up for launch of the new Venturayr hub

- Lorraine Howard

Karen Speirs is a woman who has spent her savings transforming a run down pub in Ayr into a hub for kids.

“I had been a nurse for so long but woke up one morning and thought I was unhappy and it was time for change.

“Before you know it we are ripping out toilets and installing new ones.

“Without the help and support of Craig, the family and my friends, I would never have been able to do this.”

Venturayr now boasts a DJ deck, dancefloor, haze machine and bubble machine with plans for a photo booth prop.

Karen went on: “I want the young people to come in and get the night- club feel in the safe surroundings at Venturayr.

“We will offer different party packages and these can range from dance instruction to film characters and mocktails for the youngsters.

“We have support from Sound Magic recording studio and we want to encourage the young people to develop their musical talent with our help.

“DJ Brian Jardine has also been great showing the youngsters how to work the decks and make music.”

And Friday’s grand opening will see Karen roll out the red carpet for the first time.

“I cannot wait, at the moment there is still a lot of work to be done but we have had staff training and an open day and it was fantastic, so much energy in the place.”

Venturayr opens from 6pm on Friday and members of the public are invited to pop in and meet Karen and the team.
