Dream come true with Ches

-

It’s not too often I’ll get political publicly but sometimes I do.

By the time you read this we might have decided one way or another as regards the European referendum.

I genuinely hope we vote to stay – from a musical point of view the idea of having a lot of red tape to deal with when gigging in Europe sounds rubbish frankly.

Right now we are free to work and live anywhere in Europe and that’s something that really appeals to me, knowing I can gig anywhere with relative ease, how brilliant.

Obviously people have their own reasons for their vote and all are welcome to their opinion but for me for the ease of performing in Europe alone ( in addition to countless other benefits no doubt) I hope we will stay.

• I realised a childhood dream of sorts in Irvine last week supporting the One and Only, Chesney Hawkes. It was surreal to say the least and a genuinely brilliant gig that will live long in my memory.

I think everyone was really impressed with Oor Chesney, his singing and song- writing talents vastly less publicised than his association with his 1991 hit. His performance showed a fine range of skills and ability and it was genuinely one of the best solo singersongwriter performances I’ve heard in a long time.

It’s funny how a song can tend to either overshadow or define a career and in Chesney’s case it may well be the song he’ll never escape from but to mark him as a one trick pony would be a mistake and a travesty.

• Huge respect to Ayrshire singer Nick McCann who is organising the concert to raise funds for Malcolm Sargent House, which is sadly threatened with closure.

Nick and friends will perform at Ayr Rugby Club on Saturday, July 30 with a line up including Seaside Sons.

Obviously Malcolm Sargent House is a much loved and much needed resource and it’s superb to see local talent standing up for issues that matter. Good on you Nick and team.

• Largs Live takes place this weekend coming with a feast of music taking place all over the seaside town with something surely to suit everyone. Gigs take place all over town in venues including Room, The Lounge, The Achor, McCabes, The Waterside, McAuleys and more.

• Ayrshire legends The Hostiles will launch their new album Last Call with a hometown show in Ayr on Wednesday 15th July at Crumbs ‘ n’ Cocktails.

The band have been going for 15 years or so, I remember seeing them at the Space Place when I was 14, some time ago now.

The Hostiles have toured all over Europe and always put on a high energy show. The show comes from Bubble Tea Records and will feature special guests To Err is Human and Maxwell’s Dead. 7pm doors.

• Entries are still being accepted for the Song for The Airshow competition which could see YOUR song as the official song for the Scottish International Airshow in Ayr on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 of September.

The song must be themed around flight, flying or aviation. Submit your entries to cal. reid@ tsia. scot by 30th June and good luck! Until next week @ Little Fire
