- Michael Reynolds

An award- winning female writer’s collective from around Ayrshire are toasting the success of their latest release.

LiterEight now has four books under its belt, and the latest – Stomping Good Stories for Children – is flying off the digital shelves on the publisher’s website and Amazon.

Helena Sheridan, the project’s initator, is from Kilmarnock as is Fiona Atchison, while Janice Johnston and Lesley Deschner are from Mauchline.

Other members i n c l u d e M a g g i e Bolton from Kilmaurs, Cathering Lang is from Irvine, Fiona McFadzean from Ayr and Greta Yorke comes from Prestwick.

Kilmarnock writer Pam Ramage joined them as a guest author for their latest release, while popular children’s author Cathie McPhail helped by reading over the stories ahead of publication and provided a glowing review for the back cover.

She said: “From rhymes to riddles, and frogs to fairies, from grannies who teach pirates about healthy eating, to giants who learn how to make friends, this delightful anthology of traditional tales has something for everyone.”

The group are also a big hit on the Women’s Guild circuit, as well as other groups and clubs.

One of the benefits of LiterEight’s group publishing approach is that readings can be shared out with whoever is available, meaning participants vary between three and eight with someone always available.

The group don’t charge a fee for performance readings, but are always ready to accept any donations towards travel expenses– and they promise that a spot of home baking never goes a miss when they pay a visit.

Bookings stretch into January 2017 but the club say there are still plenty of dates available.
