Burners mix it up on road, trail and track

-

Ayr Burners Cycling QTS took to the tarmac, trails, and boards for a big mix of activities.

On Saturday morning, the Burns Centre bunch enjoyed their steady 30 miler around the quiet lanes of South Ayrshire, while young Sparks and Flames headed for the Kyle pump track for fun on the purpose built skills loop.

On Saturday evening, three Burners left Carlisle to catch the sunrise over Cramond beach on the east coast. The Ride to the Sun event is a 100 mile route that is held around the Summer Solstice, with over 800 rides taking part.

At Glasgow’s Emirates Arena, three members completed their level four track accreditation after a two hour coached session. This brings the total number of fully track trained Burners to 10 with a members only club session at the Velodrome in August.

This week, Burners have a Mountain Bike skills session, and the Summer Series rolls on with the Troon Treasure Hunt.

Three members of South Ayrshire’s newest cycling group, The Carrick Cycling Club, headed to the Alistair Speed memorial time trial.

Sixty took to the start line in fine weather for the 50 mile test on the roads around Freuchie. Kenny Armstrong shattered his pb with 1hr 49 mins and 40 secs for second place only 16 seconds behind winner John Entwhistle.

Mick Robb and Mark Skilling were 12th and 14th in 1.58.40 and 1.58.04. The three results helped Carrick CC win the team prize in 4 hours 46 mins 33 secs, an average speed of over 31 miles per hour.
