Fun day for charity cash

-

A family fun day at Ayr Rugby Club’s Millbrae ground will raise vital funds for local charities.

Organiser Nick McCann believes it’s important for the community to rally round local groups and ensure they have the money to continue to support people.

He said: “People power is the biggest thing that helps these charities out in a local sense.

“The more supporters they have locally the more chance they have of keeping these facilities open for the people that need them.”

Live bands such as Nicola Cassels, Seaside Sons, and The Kinks Experience have all signed up to perform at the fundraiser.

And theate groups, dance schools and a fun fair will make sure there’s something for everyone at Millbrae on Saturday, July 30.

Nick says the fun day has grown far beyond what he could have imagined after an amazing show of support.

He said: “My original idea was just to put on a few bands, put on a wee gig and raise a couple of hundred quid.

“But everybody – and I do mean everybody – just jumped on the bandwagon and said they could supply this, that and the next thing.

“Everybody’s giving up their time for absolutely nothing, so it’s great.”

The fun day is pay on the door, with the events kicking off at 10am and DJ Nick has set his sights on five figures to help local charities.

He said: “It all depends on how many people turn up of course, but I’d like to think, and I’d certainly hope, that we could raise somewhere in excess of about £ 10,000.”
