Callers rob two elderly

-

Two pensioners fell victim to heartless doorstep criminals this weekend, who stole money from their homes.

Both crimes took place in Prestwick on Friday evening, with an 87- year- old woman and a 94- year- old man having cash stolen.

In the first incident, at around 6pm, a man approached the woman’s door in Wallace Court and conned his way into her home before stealing from her.

He is described as white, around 5’ 8” or 5’ 9” with a heavy build. He had short, fair/ light brown hair and spoke with a Scottish accent, wearing a beigie jumper and beigie trousers.

In the second incident, at around 7.30pm in Adamton Road South, a partially sighted 94- year- old man fell victim to a doorstep con artist.

Officers believe both could have been carried out by the same person, but are keeping “an open mind” and promise all lines of enquiry will be followed up.

Detective Constable Karen Smith said: “Unfortunately, two of our most vulnerable members of the community have been duped by these despicable people.

“I am at a loss as to how anyone can conduct themselves in such a way and feel nothing but contempt for people who carry out such crimes.

“I am determined to find them and hold them to account for their actions.”

Officers have been carrying out door- todoor inquiries in and around both areas in an effort to find extra details on the man, and say it is not known at present whether there is more than one suspect.

Detective Constable Smith said: “I am appealing to local residents and anyone who may have been in these areas to think and consider if they saw anything which seemed a little odd.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Ayr Police Office on 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
