Rising star of youth politics

-

An Alloway student is leading the way for the Young European Movement in Scotland’s capital city.

Former Wellington pupil, Amber Feeney, began her political adventure six months ago with a group of friends who shared a mutual passion for staying in the European Union and has since organised rallies across Edinburgh.

The most recent was outside the Scottish Parliament which saw over 6,000 protesters confirm attendance. The 19- year- old who studies Law at Edinburgh University told the Post: “I’m really proud to be the only person from Ayrshire in my team, I currently work as the Communications and Campaigns Manager for the Young European Movement Edinburgh.

“The aim of our events is to bring people together to exchange ideas following Britain voting to leave the EU and we hope to be the face of young people supporting to stay part of the European Union.

“We started as a small group around six months ago after finding a lot of little organisations in pockets that shared our views, I created an event on Facebook and since then we have just gone from strength to strength.

“The most recent event we held was outside Holyrood on June 29 and we have seen thousands of people come along to support our peaceful rallies.

“I hope that we can continue to encourage young people to engage and develop an interest in the exchange of political opinion.”
