This team’s eyes are always on the skies

“It’s always an interesting job, as no two days are ever the same.

“It’s a very, very diverse mix we have at Prestwick, from 747s on the cargo side of things, to the 737s on the commercial Ryanair flights, mixed in with the military aircraft that stop here.

“It’s such a wide range - we really do handle everything and anything.”

The job of Air Traffic Control proves that there is far more to Glasgow Prestwick then just holiday flights.

Robert said: “The reflection of what we do with the traffic we have bears no resemblance to what’s going on in the terminal building at times.

“We can be really, really busy in Air Traffic Control, even at times when there are no passenger flights due to be arriving or departing .

“There’s a lot more inbound and outbound traffic from Prestwick than a lot of people might think.”

Having worked at Prestwick for many years, Robert knows better than anyone how the flight patterns have changed - and he’s delighted to see things are on the rise again.

He added: “There’s been so many changes over the years.

“But you can tell things are definitely on the up once again, which is good news for everyone.

“We are getting a lot more business coming in, and a lot of the military work keeps us ticking over nicely.

“Hopefully, the Spaceport will give us another boost too.”
