Many thanks from cheque mates

- Kenny Smith

Hansel said a massive thank you to big- hearted Sainsbury’s staff and shoppers af ter receiving a donation of £ 7316.

Debbie Campbell from the charity’s fundraising team was presented with the bumper cheque by Claire Smith the store’s Community Colleague at a presentation in the Prestwick store.

Hansel was chosen by customers as the store’s Local Charity of the Year last July. Since then the team at Sainsbury’s have worked tirelessly to raise funds for them, organising a wide range of events - from bag packing and in store concerts to breakfasts with Santa and bike rides.

They also lent their support to Hansel events, even braving the foaming waters of the River Tay during a white water rafting event and taking part in a mud run at Catrine House.

Debbie said: “Sainsbury’s and their customers have been absolutely amazing and have made us feel so welcome and privileged to be their charity of the year.

“This cheque is the culmination of an extraordinary year for us – not only have had an incredible boost to funds which will go to very good use, but we have made some fantastic new friends and been given a great platform to tell people about the work we do.”

Claire added: “Hansel is a fantastic and dedicated charity and we are proud to have been part of its work and meet some of the people who are supported by the charity. There are so many great memories from the year – from the instore bake sale to attending Hansel’s amazing charity ball in Brig O’Doon.

“Our last awareness weekend event in store, where we had a team of talented singers busking for our customers, was a great way to round off the year. Our customers are still talking about it! Not only was it a great show but it gave the team here and our customers the opportunity to meet some of the volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes to raise funds for the charity - including the very worthy Hansel community Super Hero winner, singer songwriter Scott Nicol.”

Based in Symington, Hansel is a leading social care provider, offering a range of services to people living with learning difficulties including small group living residential accommodation and supported living, short breaks, respite care, employment opportunities and supports, and transition support services, including young people living within the autistic spectrum.
