Emma’s make up look goes global now
A make- up artistry student from Ayrshire College competed at this year’s prestigious Jane Iredale National Student MakeUp competition after beating over 200 people to one of six finalist positions.
This year’s theme was ‘ make- up from around the world’ and Emma Davidson, 18 from Ayr, decided to follow her passion for Japanese culture by entering a geisha design for judging.
Emma’s entry impressed judges enough to earn her a place in the London finals, where she did very well in replicating the geisha make- up look.
All expenses were paid as event organisers flew Emma and her model – classmate Shannah Moore – to London from Glasgow ahead of the competition.
Emma then practised and researched Japanese culture vigorously ahead of the finals. Unfortunately Emma didn’t place at the competition but called reaching this stage “a dream come true”.
Getting to the finals is a remarkable achievement for anyone as the competition is so fierce. Emma’s success is all the more incredible as she is only in her first year at Ayrshire College.
Emma, who studies at the Kilwinning campus, said: “When I submitted my picture I knew I was up against over 200 other students from across the UK, so I was absolutely delighted to get to the finals.
“I’ve always had a fascination with Japanese culture - their fashion, street styles, make- up, and I really like Japanese animation.
“There are a few other types of Japanese styles that I considered but everyone can recognise the geisha look as Japanese.”
Emma is looking forward to returning to Ayrshire College in August as she progresses to HNC Make- Up Artistry.
