-

A geography teacher’s shaggy dog tales have become a worldwide hit.

The Louis Louis series by South Ayrshire teacher Gillian Muir has already been translated into French and Dutch with fans from all over the world following his adventures.

Gillian based the books on her own dog who travelled with her and her family around Europe, and has turned the series into a smash hit with four books already published and another coming next year.

She said: “The inspiration for the Louis books came while I was writing a coming of age novel called Ten at Last Ted.

“While I was working on this book, we adopted a Cocakpoo from a dog shelter in Brussels.

“He travelled with us around Europe and I realised there must be a book written about him.”

Talented Belgian comic book artist Delphine Frantzen has provided illustrations for the books, which are published through Gillian’s own independent publishing company, Wee Dug Books.

The former geography teacher has been blown away by the support her books has received.

She said: “There are Louis fans all over the world – not only do readers love to hear about his adventures but they also enjoy visiting the sights in the various cities.

“After working as a geography teacher in North Ayrshire for 20 years I’m delghted so many children are enjoying reading about different places in a fun way.”
