Craigie seniors’ big chance

Craigie are on course for three titles in a row in the Ayr and Prestwick seniors league.

But Northfield and Wattfield are right in the mix as the fight goes to the wire.

Ties in Ayr Trophies Committee’s Westwater Cup opened on Monday evening with wins for Northfield, Newton Park, Hawkhill and Prestwick.

Results: Northfield 76, Forehill 46; Newton Park 85, Crooksmoss 46; Hawkhill 69, Peter Boyle 52; Prestwick 67, Ayr 63.

Second round ties on Monday, July 11: Northfield v Seafield ( at Crooksmoss); Kincaidsto­n & Belmont v Hawkhill ( at Prestwick); Newton Park v Craigie ( at Forehill); Wattfield v Prestwick ( at Hawkhill).

The road to the finals of the Ayr Championsh­ips continues next week.

Ayr Forehill hosts the east v north semi- final on Wednesday, July 13 with Cumnock staging the south v west semi the following day. Start times are 2.30pm and 6.30pm.

The finals are at Irvine Park on Saturday, August 13 at 10.30am and 2.30pm.
