Football tourney for Tilly

- Sarah Hilley

A big- hearted wee boy has masterminded a huge football tournament to help Tilly Sharkey.

Goalkeeper Finlay Wilson, 12, decided to take action when he heard about Tilly’s heartbreaking brain tumour battle.

Tilly, 5, was diagnosed with a rare cancer last month and mum Michelle, 32, is desperately trying to fund medical treatment in America.

Finlay, of Girvan, said: “I feel so sorry for the family. Tilly’s big sister Taylor is in some of my classes at Queen Margaret Academy. I had to do something.

“A lot of people have joined in to help me now, which is great as I couldn’t have done it without them. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Caledonian Football Club have laid on the ground for free and Grant’s Whisky Distillery are donating £ 500.

Finlay, who plays for Prestwick CFC, has amassed loads of raffle prizes thanks to younger brother Rory, 10, fireman dad Stuart and other family and friends.

Mum- of- three Sharon, 36, said: “I was taking Finlay to school and he just said ‘ I want to do something to help this wee girl. Can I organise a football tournament?’

“It has just snowballed from there. I have been trying to help him as it is a lot for wee boy to do. I can’t imagine what Tilly’s family are going through.

“Finlay said if it was his six- year- old brother Lyall he would hope people would do the same.”

Tilly’s Tournament will take place on Sunday from noon to 4pm at Caledonian Park, Prestwick. As well as five- a- side football there will be up to 300 prizes to win, a bouncy castle, beat the goalie, face- painting and more.
