Dundonald Games Dundonald Games will take place this week and a good turnout is expected. Past Chieftain Alison Armour marked her birthday a week before the Games by having her hair shorn off for charity. She will donate her hair to Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who have lost their hair, and money donated will go to Little Hearts Matter. Donations can be made via the website www. uk. virginmoneygiving/ someonespecial/ littleheartsmatter or at various points up to and on Games Day. MacMillan Stall Andrew and Fiona Douglas will be running a stall at the Games selling preserves. There will also be a tombola stall and any donations for this will be greatly appreciated. Village institution re- opens What was originally the Castle Hotel has now reopened as The Auchans after months of uncertainty as to its future. The building has been a pub for well over 200 years at least and has been a meeting place for a number of village organisations. It features in Kelso Hunter’s book Retrospect of the Artist’s Life describing village 200 years ago. Over the last 50 years it has operated under the names Castle Hotel, Castleview, The Old Castle and now The Auchans, a name selected after consultation with the community. “Auchans” is a well known local name and derives from the Gaelic for “fields”.
