Make tracks to take in Kames classic car show
The line- up for the annual Kames Classic Car Show at Muirkirk on Sunday promises to have something to satisfy all tastes - with entries not only from Ayrshire and Lanarkshire but all over the South of Scotland and the North of England.
While the connoisseurs will appreciate the lovingly restored vintage sports and saloons like the 1939 Vauxhall Holden imported from Australia, younger enthusiasts will drool over marques such as Ferrari, Lotus, Marcos, Jaguar, Mercedes, Porsche, Morgan, TVR and Bentley.
But many of the 200 or so vehicles expected by East Ayrshire Car Club will bring back to visitors memories of their early motoring years, with family classics like the Morris Minor, Vauxhall Wyvern, Austin A30, Hillman Imp, Ford Anglia, Austin Allegro and Ford Classic.
If one’s budget went a bit further half a century ago, the Triumph Stag, Rover P6, Talbot 90, and Audi Quattro would be popular picks, while an immaculate ex- police Jaguar Mk2 may stir- up recollections of minor misdemeanours.
The commercials have not been overlooked with a fire truck, a Thames van, a milk float and a heavy US Army truck included in the entry.
One of the oldest entrants will be Jock Millar from Drumclog who has entered two sports cars with which he still competes in sprints and hillclimbs.
Gates open at 10.30am, judging begins at 11am with prizegiving at 3pm. To allow amateur photographers capture the cars in motion, the display cars will take part in a five mph parade around the race track from 2pm.
Music will be provided by a traditional jazz band and there will be a full commentary. The Motorsport Complex has toilets, a cafe and free parking. The exhibits and support stands can be accessed on the surfaced footpaths.
