Prestwick all out for derby revenge

Spin king Mitchell says Oval men are fired up

- Mike Wilson

Mitchell Rao says Prestwick will be gunning for revenge when they host the second derby of the league season on Saturday.

The Henry Thow Oval men, who are flying high in the Premier Division, lost by 22 runs when the teams clashed at Cambusdoon in June.

But Rao, 19, says Prestwick who beat Ferguslie by 43 runs on Saturday, are going into the game on a high.

The off spinner, who played for Scotland in the Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh, was in action for Scotland ‘ A’ against Lancashire at Blackpool in a three day game this week.

He said: “Everyone is very excited about Saturday’s derby and want revenge. We have won our last two games and Ferguslie was a big scalp.

“The good thing is we have two or three people regularly taking wickets so the load is being shared.”

Murtuza Trunkwala top scored with 58 as Prestwick posted 168 against Ferguslie who were then dismissed for 125.

Former skipper Gavin Pitt led the way with 4- 14 while there were three wickets for Trunkwala and two for Rao.

The St Ninians XI failed to make it a double. They bowled out Meikleriggs for 177 in 49.4 overs but were dismissed for 101 in 42.1 overs to lose by 76 runs.

Fixtures: Saturday: 1st XI v Ayr ( home), St Ninians XI v Cambusdoon ( away); Tuesday: St Ninians XI v BBC Scotland ( away).

AYR will meet Drumpellier in the final of the West League Cup after beating Stenhousemuir in the semi- final on Sunday.

Ayr posted a challenging total of 176 with the in form Michael Papps scoring 71. Shujja Khan followed up last week’s half century with 34 while Matt Crawsahaw hit a quick fire 38 not out.

The visitors made a solid start but after the departure of South African pro Jappie ( 32) and Shazad ( 52), wickets fell quickly and they finished on 119- 9 from their 20 overs.

Khan finished with figures of 3- 12 while Andi McElnea took 3- 25.

The Cambusdoon XI fell to their first defeat in six games as they lost by 71 runs away to Titwood.

That was despite an excellent 101 from Douglas Johnstone who arrived at the crease facing a hattrick ball as Ayr tried to chase down the home team’s 285- 5.

But his efforts were in vain as Cambusdoon were bowled out for 214 in reply to Titwood’s 285- 5.

The U15s scored 95- 1 away to Glasgow Accies with Puskar Bhandari scoring 56 not out and then restricted Accies to 84- 6.

The U11s beat East Kilbride at Cambusdoon with Nari Bhandari following his older brother’s lead as took three wickets and was top scorer.

Ayr, whose 1st XI game against leaders Clydesdale was washed out, travel to face Prestwick on Saturday while the Cambusdoon XI host St Ninians.

The Development XI travel to Hillhead on Tuesday. Ayr will also host a series of matches between Scotland and Ireland U17s from Monday to Friday.
