Ferry good show as Toni hits bronze

Ayr star pipped for silver

Toni McIntosh of Ayr Roads/ Harry Fairbairn Cycling Club won bronze in the Scottish District 10 Mile Time Trial Championsh­ip on the West Ferry course on a blustery Sunday morning.

Toni was fastest of the Ayrshire ladies in 24 mins 15 secs, missing silver by five seconds.

Already a team gold and individual silver medallist this year, her next objective is the 100 Mile Championsh­ip.

Ladies event winner was Lynsey Curran in 23: 34. Chris Smart won men’s gold in 20: 14. Roads riders Alastair McGibbon returned 23: 03 and Jody Gerrard 23: 49.

Eight took part in the club’s confined 10 Mile Time Trial last Thursday night. With an uncustomar­y north east wind, two riders were under 23 minutes.

Alex McAllister won with 22: 49 from Alastair McGibbon in 22: 53.

A disappoint­ed Scott Maclean, although gaining a pb in 23: 01, just missed the 23 minute barrier. Other times: Calum MacDonald 23: 18, Jody Gerrard 23: 45, Toni McIntosh 24: 25, Duncan McArthur 24: 37, Martin Lindsay 27: 08.

The midweek run headed by the Girvan, Assel and Stinchar Valleys, before crossing onto the coast by the hill road from Colmonell, giving the riders 70 miles.

Sunday’s run had more than 20 with 10- year- old Ollie Kelly riding the full distance. The run was by Straiton, Tairlaw, Nick o’ Balloch, Glenalla Fell before descending to Crosshill and home, well over 60 miles.

On Thursday, the club will promote the annual Turnberry Circuit Time Trial, as well as the sixth event of the League Championsh­ip over the same course.

The Turnberry Circuit is a popular event and one of a long tradition of the Roads Club.

Ayr Burners Cycling QTS have welcomed their 150th member in 2016.

The final instalment of the Tour du Lundi series of rides saw some good natured battles with the prize being the coveted Yellow Bidon.

On Saturday, the fifth and final round of the Strava Series took place in and around the forest tracks of the Galloways.

Almost 30 Burners took part in the various rides throughout the year. JP Baxter claimed overall victory by one point from Chris Johnson with Rod Henderson a close third.
