Heroic staff save the day
A team of heroes leapt into action to save a man who suffered a heart attack at a gym.
As James Hamilton collapsed to the ground at the Citadel Leisure Centre, the quick- thinking team performed CPR and used a defibrillator to restart his heart before paramedics arrived.
And this week, the 65- year old was reunited with Scott Beattie, one of the lifesaving team, to thank him and his colleagues for their brave actions by using a defibrillator provided by the council.
He told the Post: “I’d like to thank the team at the Citadel for all their help and quick thinking. I am so glad that they have defibrillators available.
“I feel a lot better now and I am so grateful to everyone that helped including the Citadel team, the ambulance and NHS staff.”
Scott added: “In situations like this, all of the training we had just kicked in and you just do what needs to be done. Just knowing the defibrillator is available is reassuring to staff and for anyone using our facilities.”
Councillor Bill Grant added: “I am glad James is on the mend.
“Every second is precious when it comes to dealing with a cardiac arrest and staff displayed their professionalism and first class training in dealing with the incident, the defibrillators have proved their worth.”
